Inclusive Civic Education: How to Make a Fairytale Come True?
This is the name of another panel discussion that will take place during the Citizenship Education Forum on October 21.
Social, economic and cultural factors can facilitate or hinder the achievement of equity and inclusion in education.
Education is a key entry point for inclusive societies if it sees learner diversity not as a problem, but as a resource that requires the identification of individual talent in all kinds and forms and the creation of conditions for it to flourish.
Our goal is to make civic education programmes more inclusive.
The discussion platform will provide an opportunity for participants:
– provide experiences in different contexts and education systems;
– discuss possible ways of overcoming the difficulties faced by civic education providers in the area of inclusion;
– share and demonstrate effective working methods and techniques and help overcome difficulties by introducing them to successful experiences from other countries, e.g. by linking difficulties in one country with good practices in another.
We will discuss how relevant the situation with discrimination is for the Eastern Partnership countries, which groups that face discrimination do citizenship education providers work with, how inclusive are the teams of educational events?
A separate focus of the discussion will be devoted to topics in the field of preventing and combating discrimination, which are in demand in the Eastern Partnership countries, as well as risks and challenges in this area.

Human rights activist and non-formal education trainer, Board member of the NGO Incubator of Democratic Initiatives, trainer of the Youth Directorate of the Council of Europe (Ukraine).
Helga Melnik (Belarus)
Psychologist, trainer in civic education, an expert in a variety of international civil and human rights education organisations, Board member of the Eastern European Association for Citizenship Education.
Chad Hoggan (USA).
Associate Professor of Adult and Lifelong Education at North Carolina State University. Сo-editor of the Journal of Transformative Education, and co-director of the Institute for Civic Studies and Learning for Democracy.
